Koganecho Art Bazaar

18/9/2018

I've been spending the past couple of weeks in Yokohama as part of an art residency program named Koganecho Art Bazaar. I don't do a lot of residencies but I've always wanted to be a part of this one for a while. So I'm glad I'm here.

The program will accumulate to an exhibition called Flying Supermarket opening on the 21st of September 2018. Click here for details. I will presenting a couple of new works like the one below which has already been installed a couple of days ago.

"Here With You - Part 1" Acrylic on wooden panels, Dimensions Variable, 2018
Will update with more pictures soon.

Hope everyone is well.

I kinda made this for my iPhone 7plus so I hope it fits on your device, too. (it looked fine on an iPhone 6.) Here's a screenshot of how it looked on my phone:

For the past 3 years, I’ve been meeting and engaging in a dialogue with a core group of art managers who are at different points of their careers (students and professionals) about this idea of finding a visual artist that they love, fostering a relationship and the possibility of transforming that into a working partnership.
The reason why I personally think there there is a need for this to happen is due to my personal opinion on what I think about visual artists and how we lack the business acumen (I hope I’m using that word right) to properly manage ourselves. I remembered vividly of my own struggles when I first wanted to start doing art in the first couple of years but I guess, I was lucky enough to have met the right people along the way who actually cared about what I do and my interests (which still blows my mind) to show me the ropes and the kind of options that are available to me. And if it’s not for these wonderful, generous people, I know for a fact that there is no chance in hell that I would be able to be an artist, let alone to be one full-time. And the thing is I’ve seen enough people, who are so talented and amazing at their craft disappear and not get the recognition they deserve simply because they lack the know-how to get their art out there or how much to price their work, etc, etc.

Navigating the art world is pretty daunting as it is, and I am of the opinion that if you are an artist who do not have the stomach to be out there to network and then to market and promote yourself and your art, then it is imperative that you find someone who can help you do that. I don’t think there is a good enough reason for this NOT to happen.

So with that out of the way, I would like to get in touch with art managers from Singapore who are either
1. currently already working with visual artist/s or
2. interested in this idea of working and partnering up with visual artists.

Do shoot me an email at speakcryptic@gmail.com with the subject header "Art Manager" if this might interest you!

Thanks so much for your time.
